Worship changes to 9:15 this Sunday.

Flowers for Sundays in the summer.   As your gardens blossom and grow we invite you to bring in fresh flowers from your house to share with us on Sunday morning.

Many Sunday this summer we could use Greeters or Ushers.  Please sign up in the narthex or email the office.

Thanks Choir Members!  We celebrated with the choir this past week all the hours they put in to add their joyful sounds to our worship.  Thanks again for all you did, and for all the wonderful music.

HELP US

We have a great opportunity for you.  The Curators will be replacing the shades in the classrooms and the big room downstairs.  We need to remove the old shades so the new ones can go in.  Volunteer some time to take them down. We are looking for folks with electric drills or screwdrivers.  Talk to, or email, Ann Derby or Stacy Kehrwald – our Curators.

Hope Growing in Grace Continues

The groups have decided to continue meeting.

One Group meets the third Wednesday night of the month, next meeting June 16th.  This group is reading the Upper Room Disciplines in Common and gathers to pray and discuss the common readings.

Another group will meet the second Sunday of the month, beginning June 13th.   Folks can use whatever patterns or disciplines they find effective and nourishing for themselves - we do not have a common reading or prayer book some of us gathered on Sunday, The week before we meet we will share a common scripture or two, and Alan will write questions and plan activities as a way to engage and focus our prayer. The passages will be the readings for the third Sunday of the month.  The group will prepare for worship by how we encounter the scripture in our preparation and in our discussion.  Meeting once a month to continue our sharing about how our prayer time has been going, to hold one another accountable, and to celebrate with each other the ways that we have been growing in grace will keep us involved in our relationship with God and one another and the people we meet outside Chapel Hills.
If you are interested, plan to meet with us on June 13 or 16.

The Wednesday evening group will meet at 7:30 in the summer.

If you were not able to join us in the spring, but wish to join us now in Growing in Grace, welcome.

Preparing for Sunday

Scripture Readings1 Kings  21:1-23, Psalm 72: 1-19

The first reading is the story of Naboth’s vineyard:  taken from him by the King of Israel through false witness and murder.  The Psalm is a description of how the King was supposed to rule The description stands in sharp contrast to the way the royal couple, Ahab and Jezebel, performed as sovereigns.

How do you regard land, is it a commodity or a gift?

What things will you sell and what things are never for sale in your life?

How do you react to disappointment and not getting what you want?  Can you take no for an answer or do you persist until you get your way?

Do you believe that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, or do you believe that power can be used wisely and well without tainting the powerful?
